What Type of Sand Do I Use for My Sand Filter?
Use #20 silica sand or pool filter sand for your sand filter, not play sand or masonry sand.
The sand is one of the most important parts of your sand filter. It helps capture particles and impurities so your pool water can stay clearer.
For most pool sand filters, use #20 silica sand. It may also be listed as pool filter sand and can often be purchased through Royal Swimming Pools or at a local home improvement store.
Alternative filter media, such as glass or filter balls, may also be available for some sand filters. However, #20 silica sand is the standard, commonly used filter media.
Do not use play sand or masonry sand in your sand filter.
