How do I install a Hydra Adjustable A-Frame Brace?
The brace bolts to the bottom of a wall panel, folds up to the top, and is staked only after the pool is squared and leveled.
The Hydra HPS-FOB Adjustable-Foldable A-Frame Brace comes standard with most Hydra steel wall pool kits. The system has two components: the foldable brace with adjustable caster, and the reinforcement stake.
Before you start
- Wear gloves when handling steel panels and components.
- Wear safety glasses when driving stakes.
- Position a brace at every panel joint, and at the joint where the pool wall meets the step.
Installing the brace
- Install the brace on the bottom of the wall panel.
- Fold the brace up and adjust it to fit the top of the panel. If you have a 48" wall pool, install the brace 2 to 3 bolt holes down from the top of the panel instead, roughly 1 foot down, so the turnbuckle bolts are not over-extended.
- Bolt the brace in place. Hand-tighten the bolts snug. Do not over-tighten.
- Leave the braces loose at this stage and do not drive any stakes yet.
When to stake the brace
Do not stake the braces as you go. Once all the panels and braces are bolted together, square the pool, level it, and check that the panels are plumb. Only then should the reinforcement stake be driven into the ground and secured with a bolt and nut. The braces need to be fully set before the concrete collar is poured.
Staking before the pool is squared and leveled means pulling stakes around the entire perimeter to correct it, or pouring a collar around a pool that is out of square.
