Automation is a timer system, or control box that will automate the functions of the pool pump, water features, and other equipment, as well as chemical monitoring and adjustment.
Just a basic timer for a single pump can be called automation, but it can get as functional as automated speed changes in pumps, lights coming on at night, or even turning the pumps on when the temperature drops below a certain degree.
There are products such as the Hayward sense and dispense system that will check and adjust chlorine and PH as needed. Automation simply makes pool ownership easier!
