Can I Build my own Swimming Pool and Save Money?
Yes. With one of our pool kits you can do most of the work yourself and hire out only the jobs you choose, which is where most of the savings come from.
Where the savings come from
- Royal Swimming Pools is a buy-direct distributor, so your kit price does not carry the markups of the middlemen found in retail stores and contracting services.
- If you hire help, hire your own subcontractors. Pool companies often hire subcontractors themselves and add a markup, which you avoid by hiring directly.
- The more of the work you do yourself, the more you save.
What you can do yourself
| Job | Usually done by |
|---|---|
| Digging the hole and hauling away the dirt | An excavating contractor |
| Electrical work | An electrician, to your local code. Most areas require the electrical work to be inspected. |
| Assembling the pool walls | Most homeowners, or a pool installer or handyman |
| Pouring the concrete footer and installing the PVC plumbing | Most homeowners, or a pool installer or handyman |
| Putting in the pool floor | Most homeowners, or a pool installer or handyman |
| Installing the liner | Most homeowners, or a pool installer or handyman |
| Backfilling around the pool | Most homeowners, or a pool installer or handyman |
Every kit comes with a step-by-step manual, including dig specifications, and toll-free technical support while you build.
What the kit includes, and what you provide
The main items you need to build your pool come in your kit. You provide construction materials such as sand, concrete, and PVC pipe, which you can buy locally. Some of these, like plumbing supplies, are also available from us.
Before you start
- Buy your pool 3 to 6 months before you want to start building, and check current lead times.
- Our installation overview covers what to sort out before you dig, including permits and locating utilities, and links each installation step in order.
