How Deep Can the Shallow End Be?
Standard and custom wall heights for inground pool kits
Standard inground pool kits come with either 42" or 48" wall heights. A 42" wall gives a shallow end finish depth of 3'4", and a 48" wall gives 3'10". Custom wall heights up to 60" are also available.
Finish depth is 2" less than the wall height in both standard sizes, so a 42" wall does not give you 42" of depth. Keep that in mind when comparing sizes.

Ordering a custom wall height
Custom wall heights up to 60" are available, but they are not stock items. Non-stock custom panels take additional time to ship, so build that into your timeline if you are working toward a specific date. Our article on order lead times has current timeframes by product type.

Diving and the shallow end
The shallow end is not safe for diving or head first entry at any of these depths. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission lists diving and jumping into shallow water as a major cause of serious injury.
If you are planning to add a diving board or a slide, the CPSC advises confirming that your pool has sufficient depth before installing either one, and never placing a slide over shallow water. Talk to our sales team about your pool design before you order.
